Starting on May 11, 2015 I will be starting an academic internship at Paradise Valley Hospital with Sherilyn Fagan. She is the director of the Infection Control and Prevention department at the hospital. Sherilyn is always very busy at the hospital, and while I am there, I will be assisting her in all of the tasks that she does. That means I will be surveying the nurses in different sections of the hospital. I will be looking at things like how many times they wash their hands before and after dealing with a patient and then reporting my findings back to Sherilyn. Based on those results, I would help her create and give presentations to the faculty.
I'm really excited about interning at Paradise Valley Hospital. In the future, I want to go into the medical field, so to be able to experience it for a month will me amazing. I've been working on getting this internship for roughly a year. I'm especially excited to see how hospitals operate and use research to improve their service. I'm also excited to learn about the different setions in the hospital.
I can't wait for internships to start, but at the same time I am a little nervous. I have never really worked in a professional environment like at Paradise Valley Hospital before. To be thrown into an environment like that would be a whole new experience for me. I also have this fear that I won't be able to do what my mentor asks me to. I feel like my teachers have prepared me enough, but deep down I have this fear that I am not fully ready. I guess that the only to get over my fears is to face them.
