PAtH Project

The Path Project is a research project that connects Humanities, Physics, and Art.  The Physics concepts of this project was sound, tension and compression, and wave energy.  For Humanities  we focused on the location of things, the relationship between things, and the identity of a place.  WE also covered art concepts such as drawing, scale, and attention. We were divided into groups that focused on a different topic like relationships, people and their environments, patterns and distributions.

My role in this project is the Marketing Director.  My job was to organize interviews for research and to help put to gather a pitch packet.  The pitch packet is what would be sent out to many museum around the nation to try to sell our exhibition.  All of the Marketing Directors worked together to put the packet together.

Below is our Belmont Park exhibit design.  In the center of the exhibit is an interactive map that shows how loud it is around the park.  There will be a mini figure that the audience can move around.  Where ever the mini figure is, a sound dome will project the sound of park.  The sound will vary depending on where the figure is.  There will be two surf boards on each side of the exhibit.  On one surfboard, Humanities information about Belmont Park.  On the other surf board, there will be information about sound because that is our Physics concept.  On the top of the exhibit, there will be an LED roller coaster that will lure in the attention of the guests.

To gather research for the exhibit, we went to Belmont Park to conduct a series of interviews.  The other Marketing Directer and I interviewed 1 supervisor, 1 manager, 1 person off of the sidewalk, and 3 people in the park across the street from Belmont Park.  We Gather a lot of good information about the history of the park, the relationship between Belmont Park and the surrounding community, and all of the different activities that the visitors do while at Belmont Park.  All together as a group, we conducted a total of 29 interviews throughout the general area.

When we started building our exhibit, it seemed like it would take forever to build.  Then we started to get in the groove of building and our exhibit started to come together quickly.  Within a few weeks, you could distinctly see each part of our exhibit.  By the end of 2 month, our exhibits were painted and looked just like the original sketch.  The only things that were missing was all of the technology(because we didn't have the computer yet).  We had a soft opening at our school.  Around 60 families viewed our Exhibition.  During the soft opening, we got donations from the viewers to help us buy the equipment t finish our exhibits.  It was a huge success!

Good Vibes Design

  • We are the Good Vibes Design Team. We are made up of 60 hard working 9th graders that attend High Tech High Chula Vista. High Tech High Chula Vista is located at 1945 Discovery Falls Drive, Chula Vista, California 91915.  We are located near the Otay Ranch Mall in Chula Vista.

  • High Tech High Chula Vista opened in 2007. It is part of a charter school organization made up of 11 schools. High Tech schools use project based learning. Project based learning means we learn through projects rather than traditional instruction. High Tech High is different because everyone is individual. It allows students to pursue their interests. This school also allows students to learn outside of the school campus.

PATH Project Description

  • The goal of this project is to teach individuals about some of the different local experiences San Diego has to offer through a human geography and physics educational lens.

  • Our class was broken down into groups by who we wanted to work with and the geography topics  we would like to focus on, such as relationship, people and their environments, or patterns and distribution within a neighborhood.

  • The project was ten weeks long.

  • The subjects that are involved with this are geography, physics, and art.

Physics -    During the course of this project, we learned about many different    physics concepts such as sound, tension and compression, and wave energy.

Geography - Throughout this project we learned different geography concepts such as the location of things, their relationship, types of transportation in downtown and identity of places like ocean beach.

Art -  During the design of this exhibition we learned about several art concepts like drawing, scale, perception and attention.

  • We worked with Sam Lundquist who is a creative director. Some of the things he worked on was The Making of Harry Potter Exhibition that was on exhibit in London. Another person we worked with was Donna Marie Bertrand. She is the Executive Director at the Seattle Childrens Museum.

  • We had to go through several different steps in order to design this exhibition.  First we had to go through the Blue Sky phase.  We brain stormed several different ideas.  After we presented our exhibit to the entire class,  we used the feedback and brain stormed our design to get a basic idea of our exhibit that we were going to make.  Our Artistic Directors drew out our exhibits.  We all started to do research and compiled all of our research together.  Then we built all of our exhibits and put the information all together.
