APOD

APODs is the Astronomical Picture Of the Day. Everyday a new picture is posted and occasionally there is a video. All of the posts are related to astronomy in one way or another. Some of these pictures are just astonishing. They all have a description of what is going on underneath the picture. I think that it is a fun way to learn about astronomy because you get to learn about astronomical concepts and get to see recent example of the concept.

This is my favorite APOD. It is called Merging NGC 2623. The picture is of the NGC 2623 galaxy. This galaxy is actually 2 galaxies that are merging together. This is my favorite picture because before I've ever viewed this picture, it was unknown to me that 2 galaxies could merge together. In fact, I've never even thought of it. This picture just opened up my eyes to the many possibilities going on in space.
